Venus flytraps are originally from North America where they have evolved into extremely resourceful carnivorous plants. Their traps snap shut when triggered by prey touching the tiny hairs on the upper leaf surfaces. Once the trap closes, the plant releases enzymes to digest its prey much like those in the stomach of a human being or an animal.
