Piper sylvatica is a climbing or hanging plant, originating from tropical regions of southeast Asia. This species is related to the plant that produces black pepper. From the base, single or multiple stems that carry multiple, remarkable, petiolate leaves. The stems could grow out to around one meter in length with good care. The leaves of this species are heart-shaped and have a dark green base color. The areas in between the veins of the leaves are strikingly silver white which gives a stark contrast. This plant produces flowers seldomly in culture, the flowers are somewhat dull. Local people use the fruits as medicine in the plant’s original habitat. This plant could be propagated by making cuttings from the stems.
