There are two names circulating for the Brazilian orchid: ‘Neolauchea pulchella’ and ‘Isabelia pulchella’. The first is the old name that is actually not accurate anymore, but is still used frequently. The second one (literally: ‘Beautiful Isabel’) is the name that the plant received in 1968, when, after new research, it had turned out that the plant belongs to the ‘Isabelia’ genus. The flowers of the Neolauchea pulchella are 1,5 to 2 cm big and have a deep pink color. Water and nutrition for the flowers comes from reservoirs on the bark. Because in the wild the orchid grows on trees, the nutrition that the orchid uses comes mostly from tree bark.
