Mediocalcar decoratum grows in trees in the Indonesian rain forest, at altitudes ranging from 900 to 2000 m. These are mountainous regions, where little sunlight reaches trough the dens vegetation. The orchid stores water and nutrients in globular shaped ‘reservoir’ at the base of the stalk. Then from this reservoir four leafs appear, that are reminiscent of the blades of a helicopter. The small, bell-shaped flowers of Mediocalcar decoratum grow on small flower stalks.
