Masdevallia kimballiana is probably the oldest known hybrid orchid. It was created by cross breeding the yellowish purple Masdevallia caudata with the orangish purple Masdevallia veitchiana. The result is an orchid with fused petals. The colour varies from almost completely yellow to gold with a purple beginning. Masdevallia kimballiana has lance shaped leaves with a length of around 10 centimetre and in total it won’t grow beyond 15 centimetre.
