Masdevallia barlaeana originates from Peru, Colombia and Ecuador at altitudes between 2.200 and 3.100 meter. The slender leaves of the orchid have an average length of 15 centimetre. The flowers of Masdevallia barlaeana grow from a stem of 25 centimetre. The petals of the flower are fused with a dark pink or dark fuchsia colour. The ends of the petals are narrow.
