Dracula diabola grows in trees at an altitude of 2200 – 2600 m. At this high altitude the plant is used to cool temperatures. The orchid likes night temperatures ranging from 14 – 18 degrees Celsius. Dracula diabola owes it’s special name to the peculiar way the center of the flower resembles the face of the devil (‘diabola’). One could also see the face of a monkey when looking straight at the flower.
