In nature Dendrobium sulawesiense is found in the warm Asian regions in altitudes ranging from 900 to 1700 m. The orchid is often called Dendrobium glomeratum, which means “tightly packed”, referring to the closely bundled way the flowers are arranged. On one stem there can be 3 and up to 10 deep red flowers closely together. The thick stalks of Dendrobium sulawesiense are 25 to 50 cm long and carry fleshy dark green leaves.
