Bulbophyllum nymphopolitanum is a medium sized orchid species. Every 4 cm tall, droplet shaped pseudobulb produces a single leaf. Leaves of this species are somewhat curved inside and are relatively sturdy. The pseudobulbs of this sympodial orchid are close together. From the base of a pseudobulb, a short flower stalk could be produced carrying a single flower. The flower is star-shaped and has a burgundy base color. The center of the flower is bright yellow which gives a sharp contrast to the rest of the flower. Flowers reach a maximum length of around 5 cm. The main pollinators of this species are flies. This is the probable reason that flowers of this species produce a foul odor. Bulbophyllum nymphopolitanum flowers most frequently in spring and summer. Division is the most common way of propagation for this species. Make sure that every division has at least three mature pseudobulbs.
