Angraecum longicalcar is a special species from the orchid family. The monopodial species grows thick roots to anchor itself between rocky outcrops. The leaves are arranged in a fan like manner and could grow out to around half a meter in length. They are narrow, lanceolate and have a deep green color. In autumn, this species normally produces an impressive inflorescence that could grow out to around one meter, when mature. The inflorescence carries up to 12 flowers that have a lime green base color and a striking white and enlarged upper petal. The most attractive feature of this flower are the extraordinary spurs, that makes the flower around 45 cm in length. Naturally, these flowers are pollinated by moths. The long-lasting flowers produce a strong, fiery scent. The plant is commonly propagated by separating younger plants arising from the mother plant and growing them separately.
