Alocasia cuprea orignates in countries such as Borneo and Malaysia in South-East Asia. The Latin addition ‘Cuprea’ means ‘Copper red’, which refers to the underside of the leaf. Very characteristic for this Alocasia is that its leaves are conjoined as lobes. A leaf can grow up to 35 centimeters; it is leathery to the touch and has a silver-white gloss.
