Large bladderwort is an easy-care, carnivorous plant with beautiful green, thread-like leaves. Unrestrained the plant floats on the water without growing any roots. The cup-shaped snares – about 5mm in size – are on the outer leaves. Every snare has a small lid and on the inside of the snare are sensitive ‘hairs’ which respond to touch. When an insect touches the hairs, the cup swells thereby creating a water current in the direction of the snare. In this current the insect is sucked into the snare. Whereupon the lid of the snare snaps shut and the animal is trapped and digested.
