Utricularia calycifida is a widespread species from South America. It can be found in the humid tropical rainforests of Guyana, Suriname, Brazil and Venezuela. The variation ‘Gran Sabana’ with its striking round and red veined leaves makes this species even more eye-catching. Under the flower petals dark purple veins can be seen. Utricularia calycifida ‘Gran Sabana’ differs from other bladderwort species, as it grows in the soil.
