Begonia schmidtiana is a rare subtropical plant originating from Brazil. This plant is characterized by its sideways stalked, droplet shaped leaves, as with most begonia species. Leaves are carried by notable, red-colored petioles. The base coloration of the hairy leaves is dark green. At some angles, a faint blue shine could be seen over the leaves. When the leaves are developing, they show a burgundy to red color. When mature, it could form a small bush that grows up to a meter in height. The plant produces light pink flowers with a yellow center, that are either male or female. Propagation is easiest by taking cutting of larger stems. When both sexes of flowers are present, it could be propagated by seed as well.
