In addition to Borneo, the Amorphophallus hewitti, can be found on the mainland of Malaysia. The species grows there in jungles with a humus-like and calcareous soil. This relative to the Arum grows with a vegetative and flowering phase. Amorphophallus hewitti will first collect nutrients to strengthen its underground tuber. When the tuber has become strong enough, a single but huge flower will appear. This flower has a green and dark purple (almost black) color. A long cream-colored flowering spike protrudes from this. The fruits of Amorphophallus hewitti are round and have a striking orange-red color.
